The Big Arts Festival 2008 The 9th annual Plymouth Big Arts Festival brightens up the city from January 31st! During BAF 2008, schools, community groups, childrens’ centres, arts organizations, artists and many more will all play their part in celebrating the creative work that happens all year round, every year, through art education across the city. ‘’The Festival gives the children and important objective – a purpose to learn…”
“thoroughly enjoyable…the children love it and get very excited..” Plymouth Teachers, BAF Evaluation Report 2007 Co-ordinated by Barefoot – Plymouth’s own arts education partnership agency – BAF offers unique opportunities to develop skills, enjoy new experiences and share creativity with others. For example: · Children being able to perform their dance and music on the main stage of Plymouth’s largest venue and – with parents - watch others perform, giving young people, teachers and artists new inspiration and a real goal to aim for (Big Arts Day)
· Schools and colleges working together – often with and within their local communities – to offer new opportunities for work with artists and the promotion of the arts in their area (Keyham Art of the Community)
· Intergenerational creative work and experience (East End Art of the Community)
· Attracting significant funding to enrich young (and other) people’s lives through developing large scale participation and creative skills in their community (Devonport Art of the Community)
· Supporting independent groups developing challenging creative opportunities for young people (Wheel Fever Workshops)
· Making sure young people of all ethnicities have to opportunity to work together and express themselves (Live Lit)
· Enhancing school and out of school music making by providing a platform for a wide range of performances (Youth Makes Music Concert and Rock Therapy)
